Xiaomi Penta, 5 cameras in a phone.

Xiaomi insinuates telephone with five cameras

Once again Xiaomi wanted to surprise us, because this time, through the product manager of the company, shared on the social network Weibo a photo that is giving us something to talk about. It is a photo that shows other smartphones of the brand, made by an unknown phone, and accompanied by a good watermark, say, intriguing, and that has unleashed a multitude of rumors about its provenance.

Xiaomi Penta

We do not know what they mean by Penta, we know many other things, for example we know that the AI of the photo is synonymous with artificial intelligence, and the part representing penta remains a mystery, remains as something that comes accompanied by five elements, as an achievement reached the fifth time more or less, in this case, the fifth in a series of smartphone devices.

The logo is quite direct when mentioning the camera, then we understand that the smartphone that made the photo has five cameras or then some resource that involves software based on AI has five intelligent functions or image processing, or the same is only the fifth edition of some of its devices, the same is simply the number of beers that the marketing director drank yesterday, but the advertising campaign is working.

Five-camera phones

Although it might seem it wouldn’t be strange if Xiaomi was preparing a model with five cameras in the back, especially after the confirmation that Nokia will launch Nokia PureView 9 with the same amount of lenses during the MWC in Barcelona, so Xiaomi wouldn’t be the first.

In the case of Xiaomi, which sometimes launches several products in a single month, it’s very hard to imagine what the mysterious device would be like, if we’re talking about the Xiaomi Mi 9, the new Xiaomi Note 7 or who knows if a new device, which I’m going to call Penta.

There is one last detail that has made the rumors go even further. The most curious thing is that the publication was erased by the executive after the repercussion in the press about the possibility of that future Xiaomi Penta, five cameras, whatever it is, soon we will know.

Everything is provided with a front flash to confirm good brightness when taking a selfie. On its back cover, the Mi Mix 3 provides a first Sony IMX363 12 megapixel sensor (f / 1.8), and another 12 megapixel (1.0 micron pixels and f / 2.4).

We talked about the slow motion mode with 960 FPS video: this feature was part of the confirmed leads, to the delight of mobile videographers. Xiaomi has logically taken the game comparisons by publishing the DxOMark score of his new favorite: 103 on the global (108 photo and 93 video). In comparison, the Galaxy Note 9 and Huawei P20 Pro reached a score of 103 (107 photo and 94 video) and 109 (114 photo and 98 video). Not too bad for a cheaper phone.

A Hardware beast

If we talk about performance, expect a best: a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 6, 8 or ten GB RAM depending on the version. Regarding to the Storage facet, future users can have at least 128 GB, up to 256 GB for the most premium versions. The NFC chip is additionally showing on the product information sheet, like other Xiaomi Models it will have IA processor for photo and video.

Some versions will be available, called Hi-tech, Warrior, Mechanics, Intellect and Lighter, plus a 5G version of the phone will indeed land in Europe , and this from the first quarter of 2019. Converting the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 one in every of the primary smartphones to ship the fifth generation of mobile standards.

Finally a really big screen

A screen that guarantees.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 stands out from other mobile devices by its slider screen: here, no notch or forehead too wide. The R+D workers of the manufacturer decided to innovative by integrating a slider revealing 2 cameras at the front and back of the mobile phone. The camera can be one of the foremost necessary attractions of the device, that try to surprise in a very high vary that has long wanted solutions to the ‘notch’ front. In this case, it appears that Xiaomi opts for a slippery resolution with lack of servomotors or automatic components, but even as effective and spectacular.

Much is expected of the new Mi Mix 3, and in fact it is the differential range of a Xiaomi that finally dared to break the hegemony of the greats with this range of terminals that will soon release its third iteration from one of the Xiaomi flagships

People have discovered that may be a hidden functionality in the software of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, and it seems that the new heavyweight of the Chinese firm would have the capacity to record super movie video at up to 960 FPS, putting it in direct competition with Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S9 and S9+, Xperia XZ2 or Xperia XZ3, among other phones.

Both Sony and Samsung cash in of the benefits of a DRAM chip integrated within the Sony IMX345 sensor, an answer that enables storing almost instantly and temporarily giant amounts of information, creating it potential for the detector to capture the 960 frames each second for real.

There is a difference, however, between the solutions implemented by Sony or Samsung and also the one developed by the people from Xiaomi, who in their case use frame interpolation to achieve slow video without the requirement for their camera to capture and store such an outsized variety of pictures.

According to the code strings Xiaomi can change the choice interpolating from 240FPS to 960FPS, then playing the video at 30FPS to get the slow motion result, one thing that may be compatible with the Sony IMX363 sensing element mounted on the Mi 8 and POCO F1, and presumably in the Xiaomi Mi 3 smartphone.

As if this weren’t enough, and as long as the code is already implemented in the Xiaomi camera app, someone has managed to activate it in his Xiaomi to indicate us that though it’s functional, the video is not really recorded at 960FPS.
